Biography
Dr Kristiann Heesch is a Senior Lecturer in the QUT School of Public Health and Social Work. She teaches classes in public health, behaviour change theory, health promotion program planning and evaluation to postgraduate students and conducts research related to physical activity behaviour. Prior, 2005-2009, she was a Research Fellow in Physical Activity and Health at the University of Queensland, and from 2002-2005, she was a Lecturer in Health Promotion at the University of Oklahoma. She received her DrPH (doctor of public health) in 2001 and MPH (master of public health) in 1997. As part of her degrees, she received strong coursework training in health promotion (including evaluation), epidemiology, biostatistics and psychometric methods.
Since graduation, she has conducted research on physical activity behaviour for the prevention of chronic conditions. A large component of her work currently involves the analysis of large datasets to provide support for investment in physical activity programming. Since 2009, she has focused specifically on cycling behaviour to inform policy and improve cycling promotion. She also continues to examine associations between physical activity and health outcomes in mid-age and older women.
