Biography
I'm currently a Senior Research Geologist and Lead Scientist of the Pliocene Research, Interpretation & Synoptic Mapping group (PRISM) at the U.S. Geological Survey in Reston, Virginia. My primary research focus includes all aspects of Neogene paleoclimate, but I specialize in the application of planktic foraminifera to climate change research. PRISM’s research is a vital part of the international Pliocene Model Intercomparison Project (PlioMIP).
I have served as Editor of the journal Micropaleontology, adjunct Professor of Geology in Atmosphere, Ocean and Earth Science, George Mason University, and Visiting Professor of Palaeoceanography at University of Leeds, UK. From 2002 to 2003 I served as Associate Director of the Paleoclimatology Program at the National Science Foundation. In 2012 I was awarded the Presidents Medal by the Palaeontological Society. My start at the USGS came after being awarded a National Research Council Post-Doctoral Fellowship in 1987.
