Biography
Chuka Ononye (BA, MA, PGDE, PhD, FCAI) is a researcher at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he teaches discourse analysis, pragmatics, stylistics, and semantics. His research interests lie in critical and cognitive linguistics, with expertise in the use of discourse analytical and pragmatic theories/concepts to analyse conflict/violence, political and peace discourses as manifest in (non-)literary texts. He is a fellow of Zentrum Moderner Orient (ZMO) in Berlin, and the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) in New York. His papers have appeared in Language and Literature, Discourse Studies, GEMA Online Journal of Language Studies, Research in Pragmatics, Okike, and Indonesian Journal of Applied Linguistics, among others. He is an active member of such professional bodies as the Pragmatics Association of Nigeria (PrAN), International Pragmatics Association (IPrA), Poetics and Linguistics Association (PALA), English Language Teachers Association of Nigeria (ELTAN), English Scholars Association of Nigeria (ESAN), Linguistics Association of Nigeria (LAN), Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), among others. He enjoys research, teaching, and learning, travelling and meeting people, physical fitness, poetry, and applied art, among other hobbies.
