Biography
Judith has a teaching and research experience of over ten years in an academic environment, working with Departments of Health and International Organizations from Australia, South Africa and Malawi. Since February 2015, Judith works as a Lecturer and Unit Coordinator at Curtin University. She coordinates and teaches health policy and decision-making; and Health and Evaluation within the Master of Health Administration Program. Judith is also a joint Coordinator for Master of Health Administration program and supervises research projects for PhD, Masters, MPhil and Honours student.
Between January 2012 and December 2014, she worked as a Lecturer at the College of Medicine, University of Malawi. Her work involved teaching health policy, health systems development and health management modules for the Masters in Public Health programme. While working in Malawi as a lecturer, she also led research work for the evaluation of Millennium Development Goals for maternal and child health, reproductive health policy change and performance-based financing for improving maternal and child health.
From January 2010 to Decembers 2012, Judith worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Health Policy and Systems Division, University of Cape Town. Judith was involved in teaching Health Policy and Planning module for the Master of Public Health programme. Also, she led a research project on leadership and management development process for Primary Health Care facility managers and was part of a research team for the district health system strengthening learning project in Cape Town. as part of this research work, Judith, facilitated the health services program development, planning and evaluation processes with District Health managers both for City Health and Western Cape Departments of Health.
Judith holds a PhD by research obtained in 2009 from the University of Cape Town-South Africa, Master of Arts in Health Management, Planning and Policy obtained in 2005 from Leeds University–the United Kingdom and Bachelor of Science in Nursing obtained in 2001 from University of Malawi. Before joining the academia, Judith worked as a health manager both in a hospital and International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) settings both in Malawi and South Africa.
Her areas of research interested include program and policy evaluation, health leadership and management development, understanding the micro-practices of governance and policy implementation in healthcare organisations.
