Biography

Dr Celenkosini Nxumalo (Themba) is currently the academic coordinator for research development at the Department of Research Development and Postgraduate Support in the Division of the DVC Research and Innovation, at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa. He has also previously worked as an Academic Development Practitioner for the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Durban University of Technology. He is an honorary lecturer and researcher in the School of Nursing and Public Health at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Dr Nxumalo presently holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. His research interest and expertise in in the field of Public Health, with a vested interest in HIV prevention, Mental Health and non-communicable diseases. His research centers on patient experiences of healthcare, diseases and treatment interventions. He is a former fellow for the NIH D43 funded development program for early career health science researchers. He also the principal investigator of an MRC funded grant to examine the impact of COVID-19 on the health system. His recent research relates to the scholarship of teaching and learning and advancing research on key and vulnerable populations in the context of HIV in South Africa and the African region. Dr Nxumalo has also served as an expert consultant in several quality improvement and implementation science projects which have informed health policy at provincial and national levels.
