Biography

Dr Matthew Siggins is a Research Fellow working with Professor Peter Openshaw's group in the National Heart and Lung Institute. Matthew's work centres on infection, immunity, vaccinology, and immune dysfunction, with a focus on pathogen dissemination within the lymphatic system.

Dr Siggins is also an Early Career Trustee at the British Society for Immunology.

Currently, as part of ISARIC4C and PHOSP-COVID, he is analysing immune responses in large datasets of COVID-19 patients using machine learning to understand the immunology of disease, consequences of infection, and potential therapeutics.

Prior to this, he demonstrated how extracellular bacteria, including Streptococcus pyogenes, can move through lymph nodes to drive systemic infection; work that was published in Nature Communications.
