Biography
Fanan is a Development Planner and Environmental & Social Impact Expert. His research interests also include urban agriculture, change detection and sustainable development. He has co-authored over 50 research articles and conference papers, dozens of Professional Reports and Transaction Advisory packages within the Telecommunications, Power, Oil & Gas, Transportation, Municipal Services, Water, Solid Waste Management and Agriculture sectors. As Director of Research at Urban Base Consulting, Fanan provided transaction advisory services to various clients for the acquisition of Electricity Distribution & Generation Companies in Nigeria’s Power Sector privatization between 2010 and 2013. As an Environmental Impact Advisor at Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facility (a FCDO-Funded Programme implemented by Adam Smith International, UK) between 2011 - 2017, Fanan had worked on several projects ranging from dams with HEP potentials, roads and bridges, to MSWM, establishment of City Development Database System, urban resilience, and urban infrastructure financing, some of which he was Lead Consultant/Team Leader. Fanan also lectured at the Urban & Regional Planning Department, Benue State University, Makurdi between June 2013 and May 2016 where he taught courses and supervised dissertations at the Masters’ degree level. Between February 2018 and October 2019, he was Local Focal Point/ESIA Expert on the Agence Française de Développement (AFD)- and European Union (EU)-funded Kano SWM Project Feasibility Study. Fanan is currently holding numerous positions including a member of the International Editorial Board of Geo-Spatial Information Sciences (GSIS), domiciled at Wuhan University, China; at the London South Bank University, London in the UK, Fanan was an Affiliate Member, Research Centre for Sustainability and Resilient Infrastructure & Communities (SaRIC); and is currently an Academic Collaborator at the Centre for the Integrated Delivery of the Built Environment (https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/research/centres-groups/centre-for-the-integrated-delivery-of-the-built-environment-idobe#content3-301453). He also served as an Environmental Planner/Risk & SWM Expert on the Future Cities Nigeria Programme (Abeokuta Master Plan & Guidelines for Urban Renewal; Ogun & Lagos Bus Mass Transit & Transport Oriented Developments; Lagos Ferry Services & Freight Terminal Concessions) funded under the Global Future Cities Prosperity Fund of the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). He is the Project Sub-Lead of the Team preparing the Taraba State Regional Development Master Plan 2025 – 2050.
