Biography
My academic and research career focuses on the intersection between Social Work and sexual and gender diversity, offering a critical and transformative perspective on these areas. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (UNED, 2013), a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Welfare State, and Social Intervention Methodologies (UNED, 2016) and a PhD in Social Work (UCM, 2023). My doctoral dissertation, “The Reproductive Health of Trans People in Madrid: From the Requirement of Sterilization to the Human Rights Paradigm,” represents a pioneering contribution to the analysis of an under-researched reality in the spanish context, challenging traditional biomedical frameworks and proposing a rights-based approach.
My research activity has been closely linked to Social Work and sexual and gender diversity. I have led projects such as the study on promoting community health among LGTBI groups, funded by the Madrid City Council, and I am an active member of research groups like Anthropology, Diversity, and Coexistence (UCM), where I have explored inclusion dynamics, rights and coexistence in diverse contexts. Moreover, my academic publications cover topics such as obstetric violence in trans bodies, gender inequalities in health and inclusive union actions, reinforcing my commitment to generating knowledge aimed at social change.
In the teaching field, I have taught undergraduate and postgraduate programs, focusing particularly on subjects related to gender and diversity in Social Work. Additionally, I have designed and delivered training programs for health professionals and union workers, promoting inclusion and awareness in these sectors. This experience has enabled me to bridge academic research with practical application, strengthening professional competencies in areas such as social intervention with LGBTIQ+ communities.
My active participation in national and international conferences, such as the annual ILGA Europe conferences, the International Social Work Congress CIFEST and the European Transsexuality Congress, has been crucial for consolidating an interdisciplinary academic profile, fostering dialogue between Social Work, gender studies and public policy. I have also taken on leadership roles in events such as the Trans Studies Conference, organized by UCM/URJC, and in scientific committees of specialized congresses, reflecting my dedication to the dissemination and development of research on sexual and gender diversity.
In the professional realm, my experience as a Social Worker with the Spanish Commission for Refugee Aid (CEAR) has allowed me to address complex issues such as gender-based violence, intersectional discrimination and social exclusion, always from an inclusive, rights-based perspective. This practical approach reinforces my commitment to Social Work as a tool for social transformation and justice.
Overall, my career is characterized by the generation of scientific knowledge and its practical application in social intervention contexts. My contributions to the study of sexual and gender diversity, along with my experience in Social Work, are aimed at developing inclusive strategies that enhance public policies and professional training in these fields. These competencies position me as a valuable resource for research teams interested in the impact of diversity on Social Work, as well as in building theoretical and practical frameworks that promote equity and coexistence in diverse contexts.
