Biography

Tieghan Killackey is an Assistant Professor in the Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing. She holds the RBC Financial Group Chair in Cardiovascular Nursing Research at the University Health Network and the University of Toronto. Dr. Killackey is a Certified Cardiovascular Nurse, and her research program uses qualitative and mixed-methods to improve patient and family experiences within chronic illness care, with specific emphasis on enhancing patient autonomy and supporting self-management using technology.

Tieghan holds a certificate in Advanced Training in Qualitative Health Research Methodology, specialized training in bioethics from the Joint Centre for Bioethics in addition to being certified as a cardiovascular care nurse from the Canadian Nurses Association. Tieghan is also passionate about patient and family engagement and has received certification through the Family Engagement in Research course at McMaster University. She is an active member of CONNECT (Cardiac Surgery International Nursing & Allied health Professional Research Network), the Health Hub in Transition (Children's Healthcare Canada), the Canadian Heart Failure Alliance, the Canadian Nurses Association, and others.
