Biography
Marcus Vinícius Batista Nascimento, listed as Vinícius Nascimento in scientific publications, received his PhD and Master of Applied Linguistics and Language Studies as well as his Bachelor of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Sao Paulo (PUC-SP). He is currently an assistant professor in the Psychology Department at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar) and teaches courses as part of the Bachelor of Arts in Libras<>Portuguese Translation and Interpretation. In addition to teaching, he heads the Sign Language AV Translation Lab (LATRAVILIS/DPsi/UFSCar), chairs the Sign Language Discourse Study Group (GEDiLS/UFSCar/CNPq) and has been serving as the Southwest regional director of the Brazilian Federation of Sign Language Translators, Interpreters and Interpreter-Guides Associations (FEBRAPILS) since 2015. Vinícius Nascimento is also a Brazilian Sign Language (Libras)<>Portuguese translator and interpreter with vast experience translating teaching, literary and audiovisual materials and providing community, education, conference and media interpreting. As a professor, he has taught and trained Libras translators and interpreters in lato sensu, continuing education, undergraduate and graduate programs. His focal areas in teaching and research are translation, interpretation, AV translation, inter-modality, Libras, verbal-visuality and Bakhtinian studies.
