Biography

Dr Moniruzzaman Sarker joined as an Assistant Professor of Marketing Analytics within the Business School at University of Southampton Malaysia (UoSM) on 3 January 2022. He has been also appointed as a Subject Area Lead of the Management, Marketing and Analytics (MMA) cluster in Business School since November 2022. Under this academic cluster, he has been leading 5 programs (MSc & BSc).

Dr Sarker has been actively engaged in teaching, research and training since 2009. He obtained his PhD in Marketing from the Faculty of Business and Accountancy, University of Malaya (UM), Malaysia, and MBA in Marketing from the Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh with recognition. As an academic, he has taught multiple courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels and provided training on quantitative research methods using SEM tools. Besides, He supervises PhD, Master and Bachelor students.

Before joining the University of Southampton Malaysia in January 2022, Dr Sarker held academic positions at several universities in Malaysia and Bangladesh. Dr Sarker started his teaching career as a Lecturer in the BBA programme at Cambrian College Campus, Bangladesh (Limkokwing University Malaysia’s global partner) from March 2009 to October 2009. Then, in September 2009, he joined the Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Business & Economics, Daffodil International University (DIU), Bangladesh. After being with DIU for two years, in January 2012, he was offered a Senior Lecturer position at the School of Business & Economics, United International University (UIU), Bangladesh. A year later, he was promoted to Assistant Professor of Marketing. Dr Sarker left the country in 2016 to pursue his PhD at the University of Malaya (UM). After completing the PhD, he joined at the Department of Marketing, Sunway University Business School, Sunway University, Malaysia in September 2020 as a Lecturer.

Along with the teaching and administration position at SMBS, UoSM, he has been coordinating Southampton Malaysia Business School Research Sharing Session (SMBS RSS), serving as a member of the Academic Advisory Board (AAB), and chairing the Business Staff-Student Liaison Committee (SSLC).

Dr Sarker is passionate about research. His research interest revolves around but is not limited to consumer experience and behaviour, technology (IoT) in service experience, sustainable consumption behaviour, value co-creation, social media engagement, transportation services, and travel and tourism services. His research works have appeared in the Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, International Journal of Consumer Studies, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Management and Tourism Management Perspectives, amongst others.
