Biography

Joke Daems is a postdoctoral research assistant at Ghent University. They conduct research as a member of the Language and Translation Technology Team (LT³) in the field of machine translation and human-computer interaction. They obtained a PhD in Translation Studies at Ghent University in 2016, working on identifying the differences between human translation and post-editing for students and professional translators. This work was awarded the CIUTI PhD Award in 2017. Their research interests include translation, machine translation, post-editing, translatability, translation quality assessment, human-computer interaction, and translation stylometry. They are currently working on a project studying the potential of translation technology for literary translation and are exploring ways in which post-editing might be of use for L2 translation.
