Biography

My background as researcher, author as well as my experience in managing information services resulted in a deep understanding of the support that especially emerging researchers require. I am passionate about inclusive education, and Paulo Freire's work on critical pedagogy helped me a great deal during my earlier years as ABET facilitator. I hold two Master’s degrees: M.Inf - Information and Knowledge Management & M.Ed.Technology (Cum Laude) from the University of Johannesburg. My PhD is in Information and Knowledge Management from the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and IT at the University of Pretoria. I have experience in information services management and the management of information systems in both public and academic sectors. I have been a part-time, moderator, examiner and lecturer at Unisa since 1996 and at the University of Zululand from 2009 to 2012. I managed the implementation of open access research repositories at the University of Zululand, as well as The Independent Institute of Education. I am the Managing Editor of a DHET accredited journal, the Independent Journal of Teaching and Learning. My research interests are scholarship curation, open access, institutional repositories, information and knowledge management, information ethics, metaliteracy, educational technology and virtual learning environments. I have published in several journals and conference proceedings. Some of the more recent conference proceedings include ECIL 2023 , International Conferences on eLearning, the 2023 IATUL held in Dubai, and SCECSAL 2024 in Kenya. The nature of fast changing technologies and its disruptive impact on learning motivated me to do a second Master's degree in Educational Technology.
