Biography
Dr. Samraj Sahay is a Consulting Researcher based in New Delhi, India and works in the field of Environment, Health and Economic policy research. He is a PhD in Environmental Economics with specialization in economics of climate change adaptation and health effects from University of Delhi, India. He has conducted research on impacts of climate change on public health (dengue incidence) and evaluated the coping strategies adopted by households in Delhi for his doctoral thesis. He holds a Masters degree in Environmental Science and a Bachelor degree in Life Science. He has worked on several research projects at University of Delhi, mainly related to economics of adaptation, mitigation, adaptation to flood risks in river basin, Cost-benefit analysis (CBA) for adaptation measures; socio-economic modeling (shared socio-economic pathways – SSPs) for climate scenarios, nature-based solutions (NBS), ecosystem based adaptation (EBA), sustainable agriculture, greenhouse gases emission (monitoring and inventorization), water and sanitation, and waste management. His work mainly involves empirical research and is passionate about application of econometric models in his research.
He has published research papers in reputed and high impact international journals and presented research papers in national and international conferences. Also, he has consistently contributed to the academic research through his role as peer reviewer for high impact and reputed international journals. He has served as Expert Reviewer for the Second Order Draft (SOD); First Order Draft (FOD) of the Working Group II (WGII) Contribution to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) and IPBES (Nexus Assessment report). In addition to research, he has also taken up teaching assignments and has worked as Assistant Professor (Guest Faculty) at School of Social Science, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi, India and taught papers on economics of global climate change, environmental policy, energy and environment to the students of M.Sc. Applied Economics (Environmental Economics) course (regular course).
