Biography
Robert John is a doctoral candidate in Human Geography and research associate/lecturer in Sustainability Governance at the University of Freiburg, Germany. His main research interests evolve around the political economy and ecology of natural resource markets and their societal contestation. He has been analysing the establishment of sand markets and the conflicts evolving around them since 2016, by conducting several research stays in Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore. Robert is striving for an integrated understanding of socio-natures as co-produced by the geo-physical, ecological, technological and political dynamics of a certain time and space. His dissertation is funded by the German Research Foundation, DFG. Robert holds a BA in Philosophy and Economics from the University of Bayreuth, Germany and an MSc in Environmental Governance from the University of Freiburg.
