Biography
Doctor of Pharm. María José Ruiz Leal is a Full Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine at the UV. She is the Academic Coordinator of the Masters in Food Quality and Safety at the UV (www.uv.es/mastercsa). She is a European Registered Toxicologist (ERT). She has published over 140 scientific articles and 15 international book chapters. She has participated in about 20 research projects (international, national and regional). She has supervised 9 doctoral theses with the mention of quality "Food Science" and 30 master theses. She completed her training at the Laboratory of Genetic Toxicology of the Institut Pasteur of Lille (France), the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Nursing of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of León, the Department of Environmental Molecular Toxicology of the Institute of Aquaculture of the University of Stirling in Scotland (UK) and the School of Life Sciences of the Pontificia Universidade Católica do Paraná in Brazil. She is team leader of the research group at UV RiskTox (www.uv.es/risktox) on "Mechanistic toxicology of chemicals using in vitro methods". She is an expert of the National Agency for Evaluation and Forecasting (ANEP). President of the Spanish Association of Toxicology (AETOX). Head of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health, Food Science, Toxicology and Forensic Medicine at the UV (2015-2021). Vice-President of AETOX (2014-2022), Chair of the Register of Toxicologists (AETOX-EUROTOX, 2016-2022), Treasurer of AETOX (2007-2014), Chair of the Education Section of AETOX (2007-2014). She has also been a member of the Scientific Committee on Food Safety and Nutrition of the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN; 2017-2022). In addition, she is a member of the editorial board of the 'Revista Española de Toxicología' and the journal 'Toxicology Mechanims and Methods' (Francis & Taylor).
