Biography
Dr. Garry is a geologist who specializes in field volcanology and comparative planetology to better understand eruption processes on Earth, the Moon, and Mars. Dr. Garry has conducted field studies at several volcanic and analog terrains in Hawai‘i, New Mexico, Idaho, California, Oregon, Iceland, and the Galápagos. His current projects involve geologic mapping of the Apollo landing sites, boulder distribution at the lunar South Pole, Virtual Reality (VR) visualizations of the lunar South Pole, field investigations of lava tubes with lidar as analogs for lunar pits, and development of a small, compact scanning lidar for rover missions to the lunar or martian surface. He served as a Participating Scientist on NASA’s Dawn at Vesta (2010-2013) and Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) missions (2009-2012). Dr. Garry has been involved with NASA analog mission simulations since 2003 and served as a crew geologist for NASA’s Desert Research and Technology Studies (DRATS) lunar mission tests (2008 & 2009). He is currently the Project Scientist on the NASA Commercial Lunar Payload Services CP-12 delivery to Schrodinger Basin, scheduled to land on the Moon in 2025.
