Piotr Yablonskiy, MD, PhD, Professor

Dr. Yablonskiy is a general thoracic surgeon, he performs all operations on the lungs and mediastinal organs, including reconstructive-plastic and thoracoscopic, owns the technique of general surgical, vascular and cardiac surgical interventions. He has experience in lung transplantation, robot-assisted surgical interventions.
He was the first surgeon in the Russian Federation who performed the robotic surgery on the thorax. Since then he performed more than 500 RATS in thoracic surgery on Da Vinci surgical system. He developed and performed the first RATS in patient with pulmonary TB in the world.
Dr.Yablonskiy was born in Moldova. He attended medical school at the medical University of Kishinev. Then he moved to St.Petersburg, where he had made a large breakthrough in his surgical and scientific career at the State Scientific Research Institute of Pulmonology.
In 1994 he founded and leaded the St.Petersburg Center of pulmonology and thoracic surgery, which became one of the best in the Russian Federation.
Since 2005 Prof. Yablonskiy is a Chief Surgeon of St. Petersburg and since 2010 - the Chief Thoracic Surgeon of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation.
Dr. Yablonskiy is the author of more than 500 scientific papers on pulmonology, thoracic surgery and TB surgery. In addition, he is the co-author of the national guideline on respiratory diseases, author of the monograph "Mediastinoscopy and other invasive methods of N-staging of lung cancer", co-author of the “Surgical treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis. Complex Pleuropulmonary Infections: European Respiratory Society Monograph”. Internationally recognized for his expertise in TB surgery, mediastinal tumors and lung cancer surgery.
He is founder and President of the Russian Association of Thoracic Surgeons, also President of National Phthisiatrists Association. He is a member of the ERS, ESTS, EACTS, ISMICS and a member of WSCTS Steering committee. Above all he is a founding editor of Journal Medical Alliance, St. Petersburg State University Journal of Medicine, as well as ‘Tuberculosis and socially significant diseases’ Journal.
Outside of the hospital, Prof. Yablonskiy is a father of three children and likes to play a long chess party or to read a historical book after a long family walk.
