Biography

Joana Azevedo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology, School of Sociology and Public Policy at Iscte-University Institute of Lisbon, and a researcher at the Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-Iscte). She completed her degree in Sociology in 2001 at the Iscte-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, and her PhD in Social Theory and Research in 2007 at the Università degli Studi di Roma La Sapienza. She is director of the Master's programme in Humanitarian Action (co-directed with Iscte Business School). She is a permanent member of the Communication Observatory (OberCom) and the Emigration Observatory (OEm). She was a postdoctoral fellow at CIES-Iscte with an FCT postdoctoral scholarship (2008-2014). She is a member of the Scientific Committee of the PhD programme in Communication Sciences. She teaches and publishes in the areas of sociology, research methods in social sciences, communication sciences, migration and humanitarian action.
