Biography

Joseph Achebo is a Professor of Manufacturing Engineering since 2015 at the University of Benin, Nigeria. In 2007, he obtained a Ph.D degree in Manufacturing Engineering from the Department of Production Engineering, University of Benin. In 1999, he obtained a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Faculty of Management Science, University of Benin, Nigeria. Also from the same University, he obtained a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering in 1998. In 1995, he obtained a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Agricultural Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria. He was employed into the service of the University of Benin, Nigeria as Lecturer II on the 30th of October, 2002. Professor Achebo is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Professional Engineers and Scientists, a Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Production Engineers, a Member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, a Corporate Member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, a Member of the International Association of Engineers and a Member of the American Welding Society. He has authored and coauthored over 147 peer reviewed journal papers and book chapters and about 13 conference papers. He has supervised over 50 PhD Theses, 4 MPhil Theses, over 70 Masters of Science (MSc) Theses, Over 60 Masters of Engineering (MEng) Theses, over 35 Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Projects and Over 60 Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) Projects. In 2012, Dr Achebo won the first prize for the overall best research work in Science and Technology during the 5th edition of the Nigerian Universities Research and Development Fair (NURESDEF), hosted from 9-12 October, 2012 at the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, Nigeria. On February 2, 2017, Prof Achebo was presented with Meritorious Award of Excellence, by the National Association of Industrial and Production Engineering Students (NAIPES). He has been appointed the Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, the Head of Department of Production Engineering, Director Centre for Research, Innovation and Development, Director University of Benin Industrial Training Scheme (UBITS) – Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), Chairman, Special Committee on Teaching Staff, Chairman, University of Benin Production and Fabrication Committee, Faculty of Engineering Examination Officer and has been appointed into very important other management positions in the University. He was appointed Chairman Special Committee of Senate of the University of Delta, Agbor, Delta State Nigeria where he also serves as Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering during his Sabbatical Leave. In 2021, he led a Team of Experts that drafted the Faculty of Engineering Curriculum of the University of Delta, Agbor, Delta State. In November, 2021, he was the Team Leader for Engineering at the National Universities Commission Resource Verification Exercise organised for the three New Universities established in Delta State Nigeria. He has assessed Senior Lecturers and Associate Professors for the Positions of Associate Professor and Professor respectively for several Universities in Nigeria. He has been appointed External Examiner to examine PhD Theses by several Universities in Nigeria. He is an Editorial Board member of Scientific and Technical Committee & Editorial Review Board on Natural and Applied Sciences in World Academic of Science, Engineering & Technology, Malaysia, Member of Editorial Board of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Member of Editorial Board Nigerian Journal of Engineering Science Research, Igbinedion University Okada Nigeria and Member of Editorial Board, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik) Journal of Technology, Production and Mechanical Systems. Prof Achebo is a team player, hardworking and very committed to any given assignment.
