Biography
Elia Fiorenza is a research fellow and adjunct lecturer at the University of Calabria, specializing in contemporary economic history and the history of the tourism industry, with a particular focus on Southern Italy. He has also been awarded a postdoctoral fellowship within the ESI program for Social Sciences and Humanities in a post-crisis context, collaborating with Simón Bolívar University in Ecuador.
A member of the Peer Review Committee of Iarc – Unicart for the 2024–2027 term, he also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of World Economic Research and the scientific committee of the Serre Regional Nature Park. His research is centered on the economic history of Southern Italy, with special attention to the North–South divide and post-unification dynamics.
Among the topics he has addressed are the execution of the Bandiera Brothers and the Five Martyrs of Gerace, analyzed within the context of the political and social tensions of the Risorgimento and their economic repercussions on the South. An active member of various editorial and scientific boards, including the International Journal of Entrepreneurship and the Itineraria series, his work is aimed at understanding the historical transformations that have shaped Southern Italy.
