Biography
Professor Probir Kumar Sarkar was born in October 1975 at Mirzapur, Tangail and was brought up at Vikrampur, Sirajdikhan, Munshigonj. After graduating from Dinajpur Medical College in 2000, he obtained DCH in 2007, MCPS in 2008 and FCPS in Paediatrics from Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) in 2009. He underwent clinical fellowship training on paediatric pulmonology from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi in 2018.
Currently, he has been serving as the Professor of Paediatric Respiratory Medicine (pulmonology) in Bangladesh Shishu Hospital & Institute (BSHI), which is a 700 bedded tertiary care referral hospital. He has 25 publications in the national and international journals and also wrote a booklet on ‘ABC of Spirometry and Sweat Test.' He has special interest in ‘Cystic Fibrosis and Asthma’ and played a significant role in the establishment of the first ever cystic fibrosis clinic in Bangladesh. Professor Probir played a pioneering role by collecting huge funds (1.52 crore) from Abul Hussain Charitable Trust to establish the ‘Abul Hossain Paediatric Respiratory Centre and Pneumonia Research Centre’ at Bangladesh Shishu Hospital & Institute (BSHI), the first such centre in Bangladesh. He is devoted to serving his locality and his aim is to ensure exclusive breastfeeding to all children.
He has also served as Director (acting), Deputy Director Hospital (DDH) and Deputy Academic Co-Ordinator at Bangladesh Shishu Hospital & Institute.
Currently he is the Secretary General, Bangladesh Paediatric Pulmonology Forum (BPPF) and Joint Secretary, Palli Shishu Foundation (a non-profit organization working for the underprivileged children since independence of Bangladesh).
