Biography
Hellen Kalungi a registered nurse currently working as a research nurse with Medical Research Council/ Uganda Virus research institute & LSHTM. I earned my RN certification from kabale school of comprehensive nursing in Western Uganda in November 2008, worked as a clinical nurse with The AIDS Support Organization Uganda for 2 years giving nursing care, doing TB home visits and outreaches, dispensing Ante-Retro Viral therapy to AIDS patients. I have worked as a research nurse for the last 11 years working on Clinical trials like the Phase 1,2 and 3 Randomized, observer-blind, placebo-controlled, study to evaluate the safety, Tolerability and Immunogenicity of Three Prime-boost Regimens of the candidate Prophylactic Vaccines for Ebola Ad26.ZEBOV and MVA-BN- Filo in Health Adults, Including elderly subjects, HIV-infected subjects, and health children in three age strata in Africa. Worked on a Phase 2 Interventional, Multicenter, Randomized Open-Label Study to Determine the Effective and Tolerable Dose of KAF156 and Lumefantrine Solid Dispersion Formulation in Combination, Given once daily for 1, 2 and 3-days to Adults and Children with Uncomplicated Plasmodium Falciparum Malaria. Worked on Adolescent studies, (I) Prospective cohort study to assess knowledge and preferences for biomedical HIV prevention interventions and uptake of oral Pre-exposure prophylaxis among adolescent girls and young women at high risk for HIV infection in Kampala Uganda. Interventions for HIV prevention among Adolescent Young Women. (ii) A prospective cohort study to assess the feasibility of Enrolling and Retaining Adolescents at risk of HIV infection from hotspots in Kampala, Uganda. I have attended adolescent workshops like the HIV 2018 adolescent workshop in cape town South Africa (Desmond Tutu foundation) to acquire more knowledge and help improve the lives of Adolescent at risk of HIV infection in Uganda.
