Personal information
Biography
I commenced PhD research in the Zoonotic Animal Pathogen Research Laboratory, The Roslin institute, University of Edinburgh. After my PhD I worked as a Post-Doctoral Scientist at the University of Edinburgh on a vaccine research project in collaboration with the University of Glasgow. I have a good track record of publishing my research in leading subject journals including Cell host and Microbe, Infection and Immunity, Molecular Microbiology, Veterinary Research and Antimicrobial Agent and Chemotherapy. Over 7 year at Edinburgh University I gained expertise in cellular and molecular techniques. These include expertise in cell and tissue culture, bacterial molecular genetics, confocal microscopy and signaling pathway analysis that gave me a unique strength to achieve two excellent papers as part of my PhD research, including one in Infection and Immunity (Tahoun et al., 2011) that help understanding the cellular and molecular basis of E. coli O157:H7 interaction with Macrophage and Human and ruminant M cell. The other work was published in Cell Host & Microbe (Tahoun et al., 2012), that discovered a new mechanism by which Salmonella can transform specific epithelial cells to drive its own uptake. Since my PhD I have been employed on a 3-year research grant investigating both the adjuvancy of H7 flagella and enhancing the development of a vaccine for use in cattle aimed at limiting the excretion of enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli. This has included research proving the functionality of bovine TLR5 that have been published in Veterinary research (Tahoun et al., 2015), and more recent research on presentation of heterologous antigens and host specific recognition and signaling by TLR5. This work completed but still on writing it up. The work with human TLR5 also helped me to be leading to co-authorship of a manuscript in Molecular Microbiology (Beckham et al., 2014) I also studied the Inhibition of type III secretion expression in EHEC by sub-inhibitory concentrations of ketolides as a joint first author that published in antimicrobial agent and chemotherapy this work will help in treatment of human from such serious disease. I have presented and will be presenting my research at national and international conferences to disseminate my research to wider research community. I aim to continue to publish in these scientific journals to share my research on this important organisms interaction with eukaryotic cells with other fellow researchers in the field.
