Biography
María Ángeles Gutiérrez García received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, specializing in Theoretical Experimental Psychology and Industrial Psychology from the Complutense University of Madrid in 1989 and her PhD in Education from the Autonomous University of Madrid in 2008. The title of her doctoral thesis was "Field study on the effective integration of technologies in schools, optimization proposals implemented through the Multiplatform Interactive Digital Classroom Model and the ICT Optimization Guide".
She began her teaching work in the years 1991 to 1995 as a Part Time Lecturer at Complutense University of Madrid teaching the subjects “Dyslexia” and “Dysgraphia” in a Master Program on Reading and Language Comprehension. In the years 1993 to 1994, she obtained a position as Part Time Lecturer at Las Palmas University teaching the subject “Science of Human Behaviour in Nursing”. In the years 1997 to 1998 she obtained a position as a Part Time Lecturer at Health Technical Training Center (Madrid) teaching the subject “Language and Speech Disorders”. In the years 1998 to 2010 she obtained a position as a Full Time Professor at La Salle University Center teaching the subjects “ICT Applied to Education” and “Psychology of Human Development”. Since 2010 she was contracted as Full Time Lecturer at Autonomous University of Madrid. During these 12 years she was teaching in multiple areas: “Multimedia educational materials”, “ICT Applied to Education”, “Written language disorders. Evaluation and Intervention”, “Didactic methodology, evaluation and ICT resources”, “Creativity applied to ICT in education, training and research”.
Her research activities and areas of interest are broadly focused on ICT applied to the improvement of learning and human development. María Ángeles carried out her main scientific contributions in three research groups: for 16 years (2007 - 2023) in the Digital Education and Innovation Group (Educación Digital e Innovación) EDI-UAM, for 4 years (2013-2017) in the ETSIT-UPM in the context of the research project “EDUCERE”, and for 3 years (2019-2022) in the Networks and Intelligent Systems-UAH in the context of the research project “TRASGO”.
In total, María Ángeles has worked in 10 competitive national and European research projects, of which she has been principal investigator in 3. Projects are related to ICT applied to the improvement of learning processes and the early detection of delays in cognitive development. Additionally, she has worked on 15 educational innovation projects, of which she has coordinated 3. She has officially recognized a six-year period of research.
The results she obtained in the last 6 years from own investigations, tutoring work of several master and doctoral students and collaboration in said projects, were published in a total of 14 publications, of which 5 were in prestigious international journals (1 in the first quartile, JCR and 4 in the first quartile, SJR) and 9 in conferences. Another result of the investigations in which she has participated are two patents.
In the years 2014 to 2017 María Ángeles, specialized in the automatic and early detection of human development difficulties based on expert knowledge. Specifically, she, as a psychologist and specialist in learning, proposed and defined the list of variables related to psychomotor skills that engineers should incorporate into the design of technologies (internet of things) for assisted decision-making through an automatic system. As a result of this research, 2 patents were obtained for the early detection of motor development delays in children. There are two patented toys: A set of sensorized construction cubes and a sensoried pegboard.
In the years 2019 to 2022 she has continued her specialization in early diagnosis using sensorized toys and everyday objects and has focused her work on the description of the variables to be measured in children's writing in electronic notebooks (Wacom). This work has been developed within the framework of a research project financed by the "Ministry of Science, Research and Universities".
María Ángeles has directed a total of 8 doctoral theses and is currently directing another 2.
