Biography
Lieven is a senior researcher in the Poverty Health and Nutrition Division at IFPRI. Previously, he was a post-doctoral fellow at Ghent University and visiting scientist at the Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp (Belgium). He designed and conducted several maternal and child nutrition intervention studies (both efficacy and effectiveness) in the Global South. His research spans the first 1,000 days of life with selected work on adolescent nutrition, social protection interventions, and the urban food environment. While most of his work is situated in Burkina Faso and Mali, he has previous experience working in Ethiopia, Chad, Somaliland, Ghana, and Ecuador collaborating with local research institutions and NGOs.
Lieven holds a PhD in Applied Biological Sciences from Ghent University (Belgium) and an MSc in Bioscience Engineering (major food sciences) from Ghent University.
