Biography

I hold a PhD in English Language Education and am currently serving as a Communication Engineering Lecturer at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. My academic journey is characterized by a commitment to integrating best practices in learning with faculty collaboration, ensuring that the curriculum I help develop equips students to compete on a global scale.

I advocate for pedagogical practices that recognize the teacher's vital role as a curriculum developer, blending classroom-based strategies with innovative approaches to teaching. My scholarship is recognized for offering cutting-edge solutions to the challenges faced by the South African educational system, earning me a reputation as a productive and influential scholar on the global stage.

My research spans a diverse range of fields, including teaching-related and action-based research projects that bridge theory and practice, as well as areas such as reading and writing practices, genre-based methods of teaching English, gesture and language, literacy pedagogy, developmental English, linguistics, bilingualism, translanguaging, and multilingual/multicultural education. I am particularly passionate about connecting theory with practice, creating transformative learning spaces that empower students.

With numerous articles and book chapters to my name, I am an active contributor to academic discourse, both as a writer and a reviewer of international scholarly work. I am a senior member of English Scholars Beyond Borders and a contributor to the Journal of Education and Educational Development in Pakistan. My extensive experience includes teaching English across a variety of contexts and educational levels, from primary and secondary schools to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

My work in the classroom is complemented by active involvement in community research engagements and projects, where I continually explore new possibilities and foster research collaborations. I have had the privilege of presenting my research at international conferences, including plenary sessions and workshops, at prestigious universities across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. These experiences have allowed me to share insights and engage with global academic communities.
In addition to my research and teaching, I co-author studies with colleagues both locally and internationally and work closely with students to develop their research skills. My broad international experience continues to provide valuable perspectives that enhance my contributions to the academic community.
