Biography
Associate Professor Denise Beutel is an academic in the field of education at QUT. Since joining QUT in 2005, she has worked across a broad range of graduate and post-graduate teacher education programs. She is currently the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) course coordinator as well as the coordinator for the Bachelor of Education double degree programs (with Business/IT/Fine Arts). She has developed and taught a range of professional learning programs for educators from Australia and from overseas. The topics include mentoring, resilience, inclusive education practices, action research and leadership. Denise was instrumental in the development and delivery of the Mentoring Beginning Teachers (MBT) program, a program designed to prepare experienced teachers to mentor beginning teachers. This program has been delivered to over 4000 teachers throughout Queensland over the period from 2014 to 2019. Denise has also been part of the Building Resilience in Teacher Education (the Staying BRiTE) project. This project focuses on developing resilience in preservice teachers. Denise has supervised doctoral and masters students in the areas of teacher professional learning, curriculum implementation in schools, gifted adolescent wellbeing, teacher wellbeing, learner autonomy, and leadership development. Prior to commencing at QUT, Denise was a secondary Chemistry and Junior Science teacher for over 20 years. Her experience as a teacher was in the state and private schooling sectors in Queensland. Denise's current research interests include teacher resilience,teacher mentoring, professional learning of teachers and inclusive education.
