Biography
Sónia Pais holds a PhD in Education, from the University of Aveiro, a master's degree in Statistics and Information Management from Nova University Lisbon and a degree in Applied Mathematics and Computing from the University of Aveiro. She is an Adjunct Professor at the School of Tourism and Maritime Technology (ESTM) at the Polytechnic of Leiria where she teaches since 2000. She is a researcher at the Center for Research and Development in Mathematics and Applications (CIDMA) at the University of Aveiro and also at the Centre for Tourism Research, Development and Innovation (Citur) at the Polytechnic of Leiria. Her research interests are in educational sphere, including how best to teach math subjects. She has interest in Mathematical Education, Educational Technology, Pedagogical Innovation, Game Based Learning, Information and Communication Technologies, Mathematical Tourism, Math Trails, Popularization of Mathematics and Mathematics and Arts. She has taught courses in Mathematics and Statistics and she has collaborated in the supervision of postgraduate students. She has published several scientific articles in indexed international journals, chapters of scientific books of international circulation and scientific papers published in national and international conferences. She is a reviewer of articles in international scientific journals. She was, among other positions, an elected member of the Scientific Council and also of the Pedagogical Council of the ESTM.
