Biography
Thiranja Prasad Babarenda Gamage is an early career Research Fellow at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute (ABI). In 2016, Prasad completed his University of Auckland PhD on techniques for analysing constitutive parameter identifiability and the design of experiments for applications in breast biomechanics. His current research focuses on developing data-centric engineering technologies for advancing healthcare by developing computational physiology workflows and personalised digital twins for clinical and home-based healthcare. Prasad leads the ABI’s Clinical Translational Technologies Group and Platform 2 of the 12 Labours Project, aiming to deliver these technologies. He also co-leads the ABI’s Breast Biomechanics Research Group, which conducts studies using these technologies with his clinical collaborators. Prasad also contributes to the ABI’s cardiac mechanics and lung research and the development of high-performance computational physiology modelling software.
Thiranja’s areas of expertise include:
construction of patient-specific biomechanical models;
computational mechanics;
finite element analysis;
soft tissue modelling;
experimental validation;
statistical shape analysis;
stereovision and image processing;
soft-tissue constitutive parameter estimation;
design of experiments techniques; and
high performance computing software development.
