Biography
Dr. Suhail Yousaf, since March 2018, is an Assistant Professor in Computing at the University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, Pakistan. He is a committed team player with a result-oriented mindset, expert with 15+ years of diverse experience in computing – industry, tertiary-level teaching, research and development, and coordination – with a particular focus on distributed computing systems, data science, and machine learning. During his professional career, he spent 4+ years in research and development with an emphasis on the development of real-time early warning systems for natural disasters such as flood, landslides, and earthquake using Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things. Recently, he independently supervised and graduated a PhD student in GPU-friendly linear optimization. He has the experience of co-authored research papers in leading international journals and peer-reviewed international conference proceedings. He is actively involved in writing research proposals for grants. He is among the 35 co-founders who won a highly competitive grant to establish the first public sector National Center of Artificial Intelligence (NCAI) in Pakistan. He has 10+ years of teaching experience in the University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, where he taught numerous industry and research relevant courses ranging from programming and software engineering related courses to advanced courses such as Deep Learning, Data Science, Distributed Systems, Graph Theory and Complex Networks, and Internet of Things. He is also co-founder of a software development company to gain first-hand experience of entrepreneurship which in turn reinforces his research and teaching skills with a competitive advantage. He has excellent interpersonal skills, enabling him to interact with a wide variety of partners and stakeholders. He is strongly focused, with the ability to complete tasks accurately in a fast-paced environment with conflicting deadlines.
