Biography
Dr. Shihab Uddin is the assistant professor in the department of Bioengineering at KFUPM, is an enthusiastic multidisciplinary educator who actively supervises and instructs graduate and undergraduate students in these fields. He received his PhD in Engineering from Kyushu university, Japan, in 2021. Following that, he had the honor of being hired as a postdoctoral associate in the chemical engineering department at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and served in 2022-2023. He also received his B.Sc (hons) and M.Sc (with thesis) major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh in 2013 and 2015 respectively. Following the completion of his Master's degree, he started his career as an associate scientist in the R&D department of the largest multinational pharmaceutical company in Bangladesh (Square Pharmaceutical Ltd. FDA-plant) from 2015-2018.
He was awarded the National Science and Technology (NST-BD) Fellowship in 2015, from the Japanese government's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Monbukagakusho, or MEXT-JP). During his PhD studies, he concentrated his research on synthetic chemistry and nano drug delivery systems for cancer treatment both in-vitro and in-vivo. He was subsequently employed as a postdoctoral fellow at (MIT-USA), where he contributed to two state-of-the-art biomedical projects: the development of lipid nanoparticle (LNP)-based mRNA vaccines and high concentration therapeutic antibody formulations continuous to manufacturing. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA-USA)., USA, and Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd., (Takeda-USA), provided funding for those research projects.
Dr. Shihab Uddin is a highly motivated research scientist with a track record of success in academia as well as industry, and he has experience of working with scientists with diverse background from around the world. He has personal expertise dealing with animal models, computational chemistry, and wet chemistry labs. He conducted extensive research in the domains of chemical biology, bioengineering, biomaterials, nanotechnology, synthetic chemistry, purification, nanodrug delivery, drug formulations (peptide, protein, & mRNA), therapeutic treatment, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, analytical method development & validation of different pharmaceutical products (liquids, solids, and volatile formulations), diabetics, cancer biology, immune therapies, and vaccination. His passion for bio-nanotechnology is evident in his youthful and enthusiastic nature as a budding researcher. His research findings were published in 14 referred publications in esteemed international journals, and 1 US patent.
