Biography
Carlos Patrão received an Electrical Engineering Master of Science (MSc) degree from the University of Coimbra. He is a researcher and project manager in ISR-University of Coimbra in the area of energy efficiency since 2004.
He has been involved on several EU projects to promote energy efficiency in industry and buildings, including E5, DEXA-MCP, EETT, EL-TERTIARY, 4EM-MCP, Energy2B, MODERN, PrimeEnergyIT, Transparense, PremiumLightPro, EPC+, Multiple Benefits and streamSave.
Coordination of the following EU projects: E4 (www.e4project.eu) and SELINA (www.selina-project.eu).
He has carried out extensive investigation in motor driven systems, elevators and escalators, standby energy consumption and in lighting technologies, specifically in domestic and public lighting and is also supporting and co-supervising Students Master theses.
Member of the University of Coimbra Consultant Team who helped in the preparation of the Portuguese Utility (EDP) measures for the Portuguese Energy Efficiency Promotion Plan (DSM Programme), 2007, 2008, 2009/2010, 2010/2011, 2012/2013, 2013/2014 and 2017/2018 successfully evaluated by the National Regulator (ERSE).
In 2007 he was one of the awarded with the 1st prize of the national contest "Bright Ideas", sponsored by the Portuguese Electrical Utility - "EDP - Energias de Portugal", due to the development of an innovating system for monitoring and user awareness of energy consumption.
He is the author and co-author of more than twenty international publications and developed the first "Power Quality Costs Study" made in Portugal: “Estimação dos Custos Decorrentes das Perturbações na Qualidade de Energia Eléctrica em Portugal” (Power Quality Disturbances Cost Estimation in Portugal) , in collaboration with Professor Doutor Joaquim Delgado.
