Biography
Dr. A.B. Onoja had his primary education at America International School Yaounde, Cameroon, and Auntie Margaret International School Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria. He then attended Command Secondary School Jos, Plateau State where he demonstrated excellent leadership qualities, was adept in military drills and became assistant head boy and cadet commander. Following an impressive performance in the West African Senior Secondary School Examinations (SSCE), he made it to the prestigious University of Ibadan where he bagged a degree as a Veterinary Surgeon in 2005. While in the Veterinary School, he was the national president of Veterinary Medical Students. He won the admiration of his peers/colleagues by his enthusiasm in showcasing the poor state of abattoirs in Nigeria and advocating for proper meat hygiene. His love for nature and science saw him graduating with a Master's degree and Ph.D. in Virology from the same university. He is Certified by the International Federation of Biosafety Association (IFBA) for Biorisk Management. Presently, he is the West African regional representative in the African Virologists Network (AVN), the umbrella body of virologists on the continent. He is a He is a faculty member in the College of Medicine, the University of Ibadan where he teaches medical/dental students, undergraduate microbiology, and graduate students. His research interest is arboviruses, emerging viruses, measles, polio, and tropical viral diseases. He has written several poems depicting viruses available at www.poemhunter.com.
