Biography

For many years, Jockers was an academic. He was a Dean, an Associate Dean, a professor of English and Data Analytics. He was also an entrepreneur and was involved in the founding of three book industry tech startups. He left academia in 2021 to work for Apple.

Jockers’s research is focused on computational approaches to the study of text, especially large collections of literature. His books include Macroanalysis: Digital Methods and Literary History (UIUC Press 2013), Text Analysis with R for Students of Literature (First Edition 2014, Second Edition 2020) and, with Jodie Archer, The Bestseller Code: Anatomy of the Blockbuster Novel (St. Martins 2016).
