Biography

Dr Fara Azmat is an Associate Professor in the Department of Management in Deakin Business School. Within the broader domain of social responsibility, Fara is known for her research nationally and internationally in two interrelated streams.

The first stream explores issues surrounding sustainable development with a particular focus on UN sustainable development goals (SDGs), social inclusion and social value creation. Within this stream, she also researches on social responsibility of small and microbusinesses and extending it into an international context focusing on developing economies, thus addressing the current need and void in existing CSR literature which largely focuses on large businesses and SMEs. Central to her research in this stream is also a focus on the social inclusion of disadvantaged and isolated communities and the potential of social entrepreneurship in promoting sustainable development.

The second stream explores migrant and women entrepreneurs looking into their hindrances, opportunities, social responsibility perceptions and acculturation strategies. Although distinct, these research streams involve cross-fertilizations and are inter-related through their underlying link of social responsibility and sustainable development.

Fara has established herself as an expert in these fields nationally and internationally as evidenced in her publications, awards, grants, and membership of international Peer Review College, editorial boards and research supervisions. She is the research theme lead and one of the contributors of SDG Blueprint and has published in high quality journals such as Journal of Business Ethics, European Journal of Marketing; Journal of Business Research; Journal of Public Policy and Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Development, Business & Society among others.
