Biography

Prof. Yuhui Sun obtained his B.S. degree from Jiangxi Agricultural University majoring in genetics, and completed his M.S. and Ph.D. studies under the supervision of Prof. Zixin Deng at Huazhong Agricultural University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, respectively. Since then, he started the research on Streptomyces genetics and secondary metabolite biosynthesis, mainly studied on the polyether nanchangmycin and avermectin-like macrolide meilingmycin biosynthetic mechanism during pursuing his degree of biochemistry and molecular biology. He then carried out postdoctoral research in Prof. Peter F. Leadlay’s group at University of Cambridge and mainly focused on investigation of mechanism of tetronate and polyketide natural products. Then, he was appointed as a Professor at Wuhan University in 2010, and currently the head of the Key Laboratory of Combinatorial Biosynthesis and Drug Discovery (Ministry of Education) and the vice dean of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences. His research interests include: (1) Exploration and improvement of biosynthetic mechanism of microbial natural products with pharmaceutical value. (2) Establishment and development of molecular tools or approaches for genome editing.
