Melainie Cameron

Biography

Melainie (Lainie) Cameron is an osteopath and an accredited exercise physiologist. Lainie has been involved in university education and research in some way or another for most of her career, commencing as a sessional lecturer and clinician in the osteopathy program at Victoria University in 1995. She completed two research degrees focussed on applied clinical research and clinical education. In 2006 she moved into the exercise rehabilitation area at Victoria University. In 2009 she left Victoria University to join the Australian Catholic University in Brisbane in a similar capacity. In February 2012 she moved to the University of the Sunshine Coast, where she led the Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Science program for 5 years. She is currently the program leader of the Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science (Honours) - Clinical Exercise Physiology at the University of Southern Queensland. She also holds an adjunct position at North-West University in Potchefstroom, South Africa.

Lainie is passionate about good quality research, and intrigued by the complexities and challenges that arise when research meets clinical work. She particularly values systematic reviews for informing clinical decision-making. Most of her research and clinical practice is in rheumatology (arthritis care). In the last few years she has extended her clinical work to include animal-assisted interventions.
