Biography
Xiping Wu is currently an Assistant Professor at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University College Dublin. He received the Ph.D. degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Edinburgh in 2015. From 2015 to 2020, he was a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Edinburgh and University of Oxford, respectively. His main research interests are in the areas of 6G mobile communications, optical wireless communications (OWC), and the Internet of Things (IoT). A particular focus is on developing hybrid networks that integrate OWC and radio frequency (RF), empowered by software-defined networking (SDN) and artificial intelligence (AI). An exemplified application is the hybrid LiFi and WiFi network, also known as HyFi. He has published over 50 high-impact journal and conference papers, which have attracted 1300+ citations. His research outputs contributed to the success of three multi-million-euro projects (FP7 GREENET, EPSRC TOUCAN, and H2020 ELIOT), where his role was a key researcher. He has also been collaborating with many world-leading institutions and companies, including Prof. Macro Di Renzo at Paris-Sacley University (France), Prof Harald Haas at University of Strathclyde (United Kingdom), Dr. Ayman Radwan at Instituto de Telecomunicações (Portugal), Prof. Volker Jungnickle at Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (Germany), etc. Further, he established an OWC experiment workspace at University College Dublin, with equipment support from an industry partner. This workspace not only provides state-of-the-art facilities for implementing OWC-related experimental research, but also offers a great platform for undergraduate and postgraduate students to carry out their projects.
He is a Senior Member of IEEE and a regular reviewer for multiple prestigious journals including IEEE TCOM and TWC. He was a TPC member for VTC Fall 2018, GLOBECOM 2020, ICCC 2021, and ICC 2022. He was an invited speaker at the Rank Prize Funds workshop in 2020 and gave a dedicated tutorial on hybrid LiFi and WiFi networks at ICCC 2021. He also served as a session chair at international conferences including ICC 2014, PIMRC 2015, and WCNC 2017.
