Biography

Born 1981, Lisbon, Portugal
I graduated in Biochemistry from Universidade de Lisboa in 2004. My PhD degree in Biochemistry (Physical-Biochemistry) was obtained at Universidade Nova de Lisboa in 2008. My research interests always focused on metalloproteins, specifically iron containing proteins, in particular, proteins involved in the bacterial iron metabolism and cellular detoxification. During my scientific career I supervised about 15 Bachelor students and one Master student. I also had the opportunity to expand my research skills and interests by completing a series of research stays abroad in both USA and Germany.
I was always deeply involved in collaborations with other research groups within the department and with research groups from other departments or institutes. Two examples that can be pointed are the collaboration with the Portuguese Airline Pilot Association which included also the Portuguese airliner, TAP Portugal, and a Spanish university, Universidad de Santiago de Compostela. Another example involved the Portuguese Military Academy, part of the Ministery of Defense. Both of these collaborations resulted in financed research projects, one from Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia and another from the Portuguese Ministry of Defense. Besides these two research projects, during the last 10 years, I was also member of another 3 research projects financed by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia.
