Biography
Stelios M. Potirakis was born in Athens, Hellas, in 1971. He holds a B.Sc. degree in Physics with First Class Honors (1993), an M.Sc. degree in Electronics and Communications (1995), and a Ph.D. in Physics (2002), all from University of Athens. He has worked for two years as a Test Engineer at the Hellenic version of the “Audio” Magazine (1997-1999) and for nine years as an R&D Engineer (two years) and R&D Engineering Team Leader (seven years) at the “Analog Electronics and Electroacoustics Team” of Intracom Defense Electronics s.a. (2000-2009). He has been a faculty member of the Dept. of Electronics Engineering of the Piraeus University of Applied Sciences (former Technological Education Institute (TEI) of Piraeus) since 2009. Since March 2018 he is serving as a Professor at the Dept. of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of the University of West Attica. Dr. Potirakis is a member of AES and HELINA (affiliated with EAA). His current research interests include DSP, complex systems time-series analysis (audio, geophysical, physiological, financial, material fracture experiments AE/EME etc.), electroacoustics, applied acoustics, acoustic ecology, acoustic noise control, electronic measurements, special measurement instrument's development (e.g., high energy physics, earthquake precursors acquisition, textiles), characterization of smart/ multi-function materials, and wireless sensor networks (including acoustic ones, WASN).
