Biography
My main research interests lie in cancer and Alzheimer’s disease research. I aim to further understand the molecular pathways underlying these diseases and how these pathways can be exploited for the development of therapeutic interventions.
My research to date has focused on apoptosis and apoptotic pathways (cell death pathways) as well as signal transduction pathways and molecular mechanisms of various anti-cancer treatments. During the course of my post-doctorate, I was involved in the development of antibodies and siRNAs directed against and downregulating LRP/LR, respectively, as powerful alternative anti-cancer tools. I have furthermore investigated the effects of the anti-LRP/LR antibody, IgG1-iS18 as a therapeutic agent for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease in an Alzheimer’s disease transgenic mouse model and have investigated the effect of overexpression of LRP::FLAG on the ageing process as well as age related disorders in C57BL/6J mice. My academic and research career has thus far resulted in 18 publications in international peer reviewed journals as well as 5 patents. I am currently investigating the association between metabolic diseases and Alzheimer’s disease.
