Biography

Hi Everyone! I'm an early career geoscience researcher and educator.

I study how sediment and water moves through steep mountain ranges, and I teach geology concepts and environmental stewardship to the next generation of learners.

My projects range from (1) addressing the production and transport of sediment through debris-flow prone watersheds of southern California, (2) analyzing how wildfires affect sediment transport and debris flow hazards in steep watersheds, and (3) long-term evolution of landscape morphology and erosion -- with respect to deep geologic repositories for nuclear waste.

My approaches vary from using geochemical techniques to measure long-term erosion rates over geologic timescales (cosmogenic radionuclides, low-temperature thermochronology, landscape evolution modeling) to short term monitoring to address landscape change over human timescales (differencing lidar topography, high resolution surveying with structure-from-motion photogrammetry).

I've recently started a position at the Arizona Geological Survey, where our organization focuses on all of these challenges.

Happy to discuss more if anyone reads these things! I also have a silly website where I try to describe what I do with pictures, animations, and videos.
