Biography

I am Research Director at FORTH and Head of the Coastal & Marine Research Laboratory (CMRL). My research includes Numerical Modeling and High-Performance Computing in Computational Fluid Dynamics and Wave propagation (with applications in hydrodynamics, operational oceanography, marine pollution, environmental risk assessment, incompressible biomedical & engineering flows) and Data analytics (field observations, processing and archiving of big data, assimilation). I have been visiting researcher at INRIA, France and SACLANT, Italy, and taught at the Dept. of Mathematics, University of Crete and the Dept. of Sciences, Technical University of Crete; have participated in numerous advisory committees of Postgraduate and Doctoral Theses; have more than 140 publications in widely read scientific journals and proceedings of conferences; have participated and coordinated research projects funded by European and national programs at a total of more than 3 million euros sum; have supervised services provided by CMRL (studies on the protection and regeneration of coastal areas against erosion, etc.) to the regional and local administration and private stakeholders at a total of more than 0.7 million euros sum; and act as consultant to local administrations and stakeholders on the protection and enhancement of coastal natural environment and cultural heritage.
