Biography

Carla Toro studied for her PhD in Neuroscience and continued as a Research Fellow at the Neuroscience and Psychiatry Unit, University of Manchester investigating disease mechanisms of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder. Since joining the University of Warwick Sept 2018, Carla's research has focused on furthering our understanding of mental wellbeing for different groups including those living with chronic illness (e.g., type 1 diabetes), neurodiversity and work-related stress. Within work, school or university settings, Carla leads the development and delivery of digital interventions to improve mental wellbeing. This research has been funded by research councils (EPSRC and MRC) charities (People's Health Trust, Rosetrees Trust, Hotung Mills Foundation) industry (The Crown Estate and National Grid) the NHS (Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust and NIHR West Midlands CRN) and government (DWP and DHSC). Carla is Deputy Pro Dean (Research) at Warwick Medical School and Deputy Director for the Warwick Centre for Mental Health and Wellbeing Research.
