Biography

Nils-Olav Skeie got his MSc in Cybernetic from Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in 1985. He worked with system development within the computer, aviation and maritime industry for more than 20 years before receiving a PhD within machine learning in 2008 in a cooperation between NTNU and the University of South Eastern Norway (USN). In 2006 he went back to the academia and has been teaching BSc, MSc and PhD students in software engineering and system engineering. He continues to worked as a part time system architect for the maritime industry from 2008 to 2015. He has been the leader of the SMART research group at USN since 2013, with focus on data driven model development (including grey box modeling and machine learning). He became a professor in 2020 of industrial machine learning at USN.
