Biography
Prof. Yung Yau is currently lecturing and researching at Lingnan University. He had been a building surveying graduate in the Buildings Department, a post-doctoral fellow in The University of Hong Kong and an associate professor in City University of Hong Kong (CityU) before joining Lingnan University in Summer 2021. In 2012, he also went on academic exchange at The University of Adelaide and The University of Birmingham as a visiting fellow.
Prof. Yau's research interests include anti-social behaviour in housing, resident participation, building illegality, urban regeneration, built heritage conservation and housing economics. He has extensive experience in programme administration. From September 2010 to December 2016, he oversaw the BSocSc (Policy Studies and Administration), BSocSc (Administration and Public Management) and MA (Housing Studies) programmes at CityU in the capacity of Programme Director successively. Besides, he was a member of the Departmental Executive Committee at CityU between August 2010 and December 2016. Now, he is the Programme Director of the MA (Cities and Governance) programme at Lingnan University.
Outside the University, Prof. Yau has been actively involved in different community services, including
- Member of the Appeal Tribunal Panel (Buildings);
- Member of the Building Committee, Society of Rehabilitation and Crime Prevention;
- Member of the Working Group on Social Housing Operation and Services, Community Housing Movement;
- Juror for the Quality Property and Facility Management Award.
Over the years, he won different awards such as Emerald Literati Awards, Hong Kong Institute of Architects Annual Awards 2006 (Architectural Research) and Li Ka Shing Prize 2007 for his scholarly work. Recently, he was selected as the Top Peer Reviewer 2019 by Publons.
