Biography

With over 28 years of dedicated experience in research and teaching, my academic trajectory has been a comprehensive exploration of Biochemistry and Analytical Chemistry, characterized by continuous innovation and scholarly excellence.

My academic foundation began with a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, which led to a pivotal doctoral research project examining the intricate relationships between dietary fatty acid composition, gestation, diabetes, and vitamin E levels in rats. In 2003, I completed my PhD in Pharmacy with the highest cum laude distinction, working under the mentorship of Prof. Emilio Herrera, whose research team received the prestigious Ángel Herrera Award in 2001.

During my doctoral studies, a scholarship from Universidad San Pablo CEU enabled me to develop my teaching skills in Analytical Chemistry, establishing the groundwork for my future academic career. From 1996 to 2002, I engaged in collaborative research projects, focusing on developing nutraceutical extracts using environmentally sustainable techniques. In 2005, I was part of Prof. Coral Barbas' Analytical Chemistry research group, which also received the Ángel Herrera Award.

Parallel to academic research, I collaborated with the pharmaceutical industry, specifically Laboratorios Cinfa SA, developing sophisticated chromatographic methods for quality control and analyzing active pharmaceutical substances and their degradation products.

Since 2009, I have been a founding member of the Center for Metabolomics and Bioanalysis (CEMBIO), concentrating on metabolomics methodology development and its applications in biomarker discovery and understanding pathophysiological mechanisms.

My professional progression at Universidad San Pablo CEU reflects my commitment to academic excellence: from "Profesor Colaborador Doctor" (2007-2008) to "Profesor Adjunto" (2012), and currently serving as "Profesor Titular" in Analytical Chemistry since 2021. I teach across multiple programs including Pharmacy, Biotechnology, Genetics, and Bioengineering.

My research impact is substantiated by 81 publications in high-impact journals, with over 60% in Q1 quartiles, accumulating more than 3,000 citations and achieving an h-index of 32 according to Scopus and Web of Science. I have successfully supervised 9 Master's projects and 4 PhD theses, all evaluated with the highest academic marks, and currently mentor an additional 2 Master's and 4 PhD research projects.

This comprehensive journey demonstrates a persistent dedication to scientific advancement, bridging theoretical research with practical applications, and contributing meaningfully to the fields of Biochemistry and Analytical Chemistry.
