Biography
Dr. Shawon S.M. Rahman is a tenured professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Hawaiʻi Hilo (UH Hilo). He has over 18 years of teaching experience (both in-class and online format) in undergraduate and graduate courses. He has served as the dissertation chair & main supervisor and produced 15 Ph.D. graduates. He served on numerous Ph.D. and MS dissertation committees. Dr. Rahman is serving as the editor-in-chief of the International Journal on Cryptography and Information Security (IJCIS) and guest editor to a few journals and also serving more than 15 conferences/journals as a reviewer and program committee member. He has been serving as a member of the Hawaii Statewide Assessment Program for Science including reviewing rubric validation, content reviews, fairness reviews, data reviews, content alignment, alternate assessment, HSA-Alt alignment study, etc. committees for the last seven years. He is collaborating and creating bridges with local middle schools, high schools, and community colleges and Cybersecurity Career Pathway programs.
Dr. Rahman has received and managed several federal, state, and foundation grants including NSF, USDA, DOE, etc. Dr. Rahman’s research interests include Cybersecurity, Information Assurance and security, STEM Outreach, Digital Forensics, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things Security, Web Accessibility, Robotics, Software Testing, and Quality Assurance. He has published over 130 peer-reviewed articles and mentored numerous students; at least 60 have published their first peer-reviewed publication co-authoring with him. Dr. Rahman has published over 70 peer-reviewed papers (including over 40 journal articles) in Cybersecurity and related domains. Dr. Rahman is serving on several committees, including the chair of the Chancellor Access Committee, Member of the University Faculty Congress, NSF Review Panels, etc. He is a member of many professional organizations including IEEE (senior member), ACM, CSTA, ASEE, ASQ, ISCA, and ISACA.
