Biography
Professor Manoranjan Paul received PhD degree from Monash University, Australia in 2005 and B.Sc.Eng. (Hons.) degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Bangladesh, in 1997. He was a lecturer/Assistant Professor in Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology in 1997-2001. He was a Research Fellow at the University of New South Wales in 2005~2006, Monash University, Australia in 2006~2009, and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 2009~2011. He is currently a Professor in the School of Computing and Mathematics, Charles Sturt University, Australia. His major research interests are in the fields of video coding and analytics, EEG signal analysis, image processing, human-computer interaction, and computer vision.
He is the ICT Researcher of the Year 2017, awarded by Australian Computer Society. He obtained Australian Academy of Science Travel Award 2016. He obtained Research Excellence Award 2013 and Research Supervision Excellence Award 2015 in Faculty Level, Charles Sturt University. He also obtained Research Excellence Award in 2018, 2016, and 2011 at the School level.
He has published more than 250 refereed publications including 80+ journal articles. Prof Paul regularly published journal articles in the IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, and IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, which are considered as the top-ranked journals in the image processing, video technology, and multimedia fields respectively.
He is a General Co-Chair of PSIVT 2019 & DICTA2023, Program Co-Chair of DICTA 2018 & PSIVT 2017, and Publicity Co-Chair of DICTA 2016. He was a Keynote Speaker at IEEE DICTA 2017, IEEE CSIP 2017, IEEE WoWMoM 2014, IEEE DICTA 2013, and IEEE ICCIT 2010. Prof Paul is a Senior member of the IEEE (M’03 SM'13) and ACS (’05).
Prof Paul has experience as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Image Processing (current), IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (current) and EURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing (JASP).
Prof Paul obtained more than $10 million competitive external grants including two ARC Discovery Projects, four Soil CRC projects, Japanese International grant, and three Wine Australia and NSW DPI projects. He has successfully completed supervision of 15 PhD students including 6 as a principal supervisor.
